What these numbers mean
Website views count non-bot visits to the article landing page, with repeat requests from the same network and browser limited to one count within 30 minutes. PDF downloads count non-bot requests initiated through the SPP Institute download endpoint, with repeat requests limited to one count within 5 minutes. Direct accesses to the preserved static PDF URL outside those tracked links are not included. Counts do not certify completed file transfers or unique readers.
Local usage statistics are collected only after a visitor has actively allowed usage statistics. Country, device category, preferred language, and referring domain are aggregated at collection time. Raw IP addresses, full browser strings, full referrer URLs, names, email addresses, and persistent visitor identifiers are not stored. A short-lived pseudonymous hash is used solely to suppress repeat counts.
Zenodo views and downloads follow Zenodo's own counting methodology and are displayed as a separate source. They are retrieved by the SPP Institute server, without sending the visitor's browser directly to Zenodo for this display. Unavailable values are shown as —, never substituted with another publication's counts. The two platforms are not added together because readers may be counted on both.
